Looking for some ideas to plan your next family vacation getaway? We can help! Check out our list below that includes a variety of family-filled activities.
Anaheim can’t be beat for its proximity to a wide variety of adventures because so many attractions are within a 2-hour drive. Anaheim is home to Mickey Mouse in Disneyland and California Adventure. Downtown Los Angeles is about 25 miles away, and the glorious beaches of Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach are about the same distance. Carlsbad’s Legoland is 66 miles from Disneyland and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido is 84 miles away. You can reach downtown San Diego in two hours.
In 2013, both TripAdvisor and U.S. News & World Reports ranked Orlando as the top spot for family vacations. Similar to Anaheim, Orlando is close to all kinds of Disney family fun including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach. Popular non-Disney Orlando attractions include: Wet’n Wild, Aquatica, SeaWorld’s Waterpark and Universal Studios Orlando, which includes the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The miniature golf courses of Kissimmee are about one-half hour from Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral is less than an hour away. Canaveral National Seashore, Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach are all approximately a one-hour drive.
New York City came in second on TripAdvisor’s list for its parks, museums and other family friendly activities, including: the Children’s Zoo in Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, Ellis Island Immigration Museum, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and the flagship stores of FAO Schwarz for the kids and Tiffany’s for Mom. Parents.com singled out the Circle Line cruise to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in its list of “Seven places to take your kids before they grow up.”
Parents.com chose Coronado as one of the best beach towns for a family vacation. Just two miles from downtown San Diego, Coronado Island offers two great beaches, Coronado Beach for sunning, surfing and swimming and Silver Strand Beach Park for bicycling, skateboarding or swimming. Travelers on TripAdvisor also recommend taking a Segway tour from Segway of Coronado or renting an electric bicycle from Pedego Coronado.
Williamsburg made the U.S. News list in 2013 because almost all of its attractions are focused on families, including: Colonial Williamsburg, Water Country, USA, historic Jamestown and Busch Gardens featuring Sesame Street’s Forest of Fun for toddlers and knock your socks off rollercoasters for teens. And hopefully, Mom and Dad can find time to sample a bit of wine at the Williamsburg Winery.
